March 2000

March is Women's History Month, when we honor women such as Mary Katherine Goddard, the newspaper publisher who printed the first signed copy of the Declaration of Independence; Sarah Winnemucca, Paiute chief, lobbyist, and writer; and Rachel Carson, whose 1962 book The Silent Spring launched the modern environmental movement. Today, women gather to honor their personal histories while supporting each other through challenges and transitions.
