Police Beat

Police Beat is a roundup of crimes reported in Noe Valley--the area bordered roughly by Grand View, 21st, Fair Oaks, and 30th streets. The following crime summaries were culled from incident reports filed at Mission and Ingleside police stations during April 2004.

Burglary: Between 6 p.m., Thursday, April 1, and 8:30 a.m., Friday, April 2; 700 block of 27th Street

A flooring specialist reported that his equipment was stolen from an empty house under construction where he had been working on the hardwood floors. The stolen items included compressors, nail guns, and sanders.

Burglary: Between 8 p.m., Thursday, April 1, and 8 a.m., Friday, April 2; 1800 block of Castro Street

A foreman overseeing work on a house on Castro Street reported that a number of tools were stolen from the home's garage overnight. Police could not find signs of forced entry. Missing items included drills and nail-gun sets worth hundreds of dollars each.

Theft and Fraudulent Use of Credit Cards: Between 2:30 and 3 p.m., Friday, April 9; a church in the 1200 block of Sanchez Street

A woman reported that her wallet was stolen from a church on Sanchez Street. Subsequently, the thief used her credit card to charge $2,500 worth of clothing and also made unauthorized purchases of gas.

Theft: Between 7:30 and 7:40 a.m., Saturday, April 10; 3600 block of 21st Street

A resident of 21st Street reported the theft of two mountain bikes from his garage; a neighbor told him the garage door had been left open.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 8:15 a.m., Monday, April 12, and noon, Wednesday, April 14; Elizabeth and Vicksburg streets

A silver 1993 two-door Saturn belonging to a Vicksburg Street resident was stolen from near his home. The car bears the California license plate 3EGX009.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 9:45 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday, April 12; 20th and Castro streets

A Castro Street resident reported that his silver, four-door 1990 Toyota Camry was stolen on April 12. The car bears the California license plate 3UD712.

Theft from Locked Vehicle: Between 9:30 p.m., Sunday, April 11, and 6 p.m., Monday, April 12; 4100 block of 26th Street

An Oregon resident reported a radio and cassette player stolen from his gold 1986 Mazda 323 while it was parked on 26th Street near Castro Street.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 10 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, and 6:30 a.m., Thursday, April 15; unit block of Chattanooga Street

A Chattanooga Street resident reported that his red 1993 Saturn was stolen from near his home. The car bears the California license plate 3CKH555.

Theft of License Plate: 4:28 p.m., Thursday, April 15; 29th and Dolores streets

A man reported that the license plate of his 2001 Honda was stolen. The California license plate bears the number 4SYY197.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 6:30 and 9:15 p.m., Thursday, April 15; Clipper and Sanchez streets

A Church Street resident reported that his green 1996 Saturn was stolen. The car bears the California license plate 4DDK835.

Theft: Between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m., Thursday, April 15; 25th and Castro streets

A 37-year-old 23rd Street resident reported that her bicycle was stolen the morning of April 15. The bike, valued at $300, was locked to a rack at the time of the theft.

Theft from Locked Vehicle: Between 1 and 7 a.m., Thursday, April 15; Sanchez and 22nd streets

A Vicksburg Street resident reported that someone broke into his car and stole a Comcast cable box and several boxes of household goods.

Burglary: Between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., Friday, April 16; 100 block of Clipper Street

A 33-year-old Clipper Street resident reported that someone had broken into her apartment, taking jewelry, an antique card case, two watches, and credit cards. Police determined that the thief entered and exited through the front door, which was damaged.

Suspicious Occurrence: Between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 16; 1500 block of Castro Street

A resident of Castro Street near the intersection with 25th Street reported that someone may have entered his apartment. The man told police that the window in his roommate's room was open, her door was ajar, and three of the drawers to her dresser were out of place.

The roommate, a flight attendant, was not present when the incident was reported on April 16. She returned the following day and told police that her closet had been entered and that a watch, necklace, gift box, and laptop computer were missing from her room.

Theft from Building: 10:30 p.m., Friday, April 16; 900 block of Dolores Street

Three cheers for alert cops and neighbors, who helped a 55-year-old Dolores Street woman recover two bikes that were stolen from her building's garage. Her neighbors pursued the thief after they saw him in the garage. They didn't catch him, but did get the two bikes back. Police picked up the suspect soon thereafter, and booked him at Mission Station.

Theft from Locked Vehicle: Between 4 p.m., Sunday, April 18, and 5:45 a.m., Monday, April 19; 400 block of Hill Street

A Hill Street resident reported that an unknown suspect broke into his car and stole several items, including an iPod and a cell phone charger.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 6 p.m., Sunday, April 18, and 7 a.m., Monday, April 19; 4100 block of Cesar Chavez Street

A resident of Cesar Chavez Street reported that his black 1996 Ford Mustang convertible was stolen overnight. The car bears a gay pride sticker and the California license plate 3RJS625.

Burglary: Between 9 p.m., Sunday, April 18, and 6 a.m., Monday, April 19; two restaurants in the 700 block of Diamond Street

The manager of a restaurant on Diamond Street reported that an unknown suspect broke into two restaurants that share a common door. The thief stole a safe containing $2,500 from one restaurant and the surveillance videotape from the other.

Burglary: Between 6 p.m., Monday, April 19, and 12:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 21; 3900 block of 26th Street

A 26th Street resident reported that an unknown suspect broke into his garage and stole two bicycles. The suspect left behind four bags of apparently stolen items, including cell phones and pagers, which were taken to Mission Station.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, and 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 21; 1600 block of Noe Street

A resident of Noe Street reported her red 1990 Ford Festiva was stolen from near her residence. The car bears the California license plate 2UDY298.

Theft from Locked Vehicle: Between 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, and 8 a.m., Thursday, April 22; 300 block of Valley Street

A 34-year-old resident of Valley Street reported that an unknown suspect broke into his car and stole a radio and $10 worth of quarters.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 2:30 and 10 a.m., Thursday, April 22; Duncan and Dolores streets

A woman reported that her black 2000 VW Golf was stolen. The car bears the California license plate 4MCD144.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 12:15 a.m., Friday, April 23, and 6:30 a.m., Saturday, April 24; 1800 block of Church Street

A man reported that his gray 1991 Toyota Camry was stolen from near his home on Church Street. The car bears the California license plate 2XND942.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 23, and 10 a.m., Saturday, April 24; 28th and Noe streets

A lavender, two-door 1995 Saturn was stolen from a Noe Street resident. The car bears the California license plate 1VBA859.

Theft from Locked Vehicle: Between 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 24, and 10:30 p.m., Monday, April 26; 300 block of Jersey Street

A Jersey Street man reported that an unknown suspect broke into his parked vehicle, smashed a side window, and stole his stereo and speakers.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Sunday, April 25; Noe Street near 24th Street

A navy blue 1995 Saturn sedan was stolen from Noe Street the day of April 25. The car bears the California license plate 4GPJ190.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 9:45 a.m., Sunday, April 25, and 6 p.m., Monday, April 26; 25th and Sanchez streets

A woman reported her light blue 1992 Toyota Camry stolen. The car bears the California license plate 2ZTG808.

Theft from Locked Vehicle: Between 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, and 8 a.m., Wednesday, April 28; Church Street near Liberty Street

A Liberty Street resident reported that an unknown suspect broke into her car and stole her stereo and $75 worth of CDs. Her door lock was damaged.

Burglary: Between 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, and 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 28; 200 block of Valley Street

A woman reported that the dryer in her apartment building had been pulled away from the wall and was lying face down on the floor. Approximately $25 in change was missing from the dryer.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 27, and 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 28; 200 block of 28th Street

A red 1994 two-door Honda Accord was stolen from 28th Street. The car bears the California license plate 3GUP943.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 1 and 7 a.m., Wednesday, April 28; 1000 block of Noe Street

A green 1998 Honda VFR800 motorcycle was stolen from Noe Street. The vehicle bears the license plate 16R9266.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 11:15 p.m., Thursday, April 29, and 7 a.m., Friday, April 30; 21st and Church streets

A Church Street woman reported that her silver, two-door 1997 Saturn was stolen overnight. The car bears the California license plate 4WZL146.

Theft: 8:45 p.m., Friday, April 30; 4000 block of 24th Street

The owner of a wine shop on 24th Street reported that a young male, apparently a juvenile, stole a bottle of cognac while the owner was talking to the suspect's two friends. The suspect fled and his friends left the store.

Theft of Vehicle: Between 6 p.m., Friday, April 30, and 8 p.m., Sunday, May 2; 29th and Castro streets

A 29th Street resident reported that his silver, two-door 1999 Honda Civic was stolen from near his home. The car bears the California license plate 4DND524.

The next meeting at Mission Station will be Tuesday, June 22, 6 p.m., at 630 Valencia Street near 17th Street. The next Ingleside meeting will be Tuesday, June 15, 7 p.m., at Ingleside Station, 1 Sgt. John Young Lane, off the 2000 block of San Jose Avenue.
